Bamboo

What is Bamboo Fabric?

Bamboo fabric is made from cellulose extracted from bamboo plants. In textiles, bamboo is usually processed into a regenerated cellulose fibre, comparable to viscose. This means the fibre starts from a natural raw material, but is transformed through a production process into a soft and wearable textile fibre.

Bamboo fabrics are appreciated for their softness, fluid drape and breathable character. Depending on the construction, bamboo can be used in jersey, rib, terry, fleece-like qualities or woven fabrics. Bamboo jersey is especially popular for garments that require stretch, comfort and a smooth touch, such as baby clothing, tops, underwear and loungewear.

Bamboo

Bamboo fabric is a soft, breathable and comfortable fabric made from bamboo-derived cellulose fibres. It is known for its smooth hand feel, elegant drape and pleasant wearing comfort, making it especially suitable for clothing that is worn close to the skin. Bamboo fabrics often feel light, supple and naturally soft, which makes them popular for babywear, underwear, loungewear and comfortable everyday garments.

One of the main advantages of bamboo fabric is its combination of softness and breathability. The fabric feels gentle on the skin, absorbs moisture well and has a smooth, almost silky touch. This makes bamboo a strong choice for collections focused on comfort, softness and natural-looking materials.

Applications

  • Baby clothing and children’s clothing
  • Underwear and basics
  • T-shirts and tops
  • Loungewear and pyjamas
  • Soft dresses and skirts
  • Lightweight summer garments
  • Towels, wipes and soft accessories, depending on construction

Care Instructions

Washable at 30°C on a delicate programme. Wash inside out to protect the surface and preserve softness. Do not bleach. Avoid high-temperature tumble drying, as bamboo-based viscose fibres can shrink or lose shape when exposed to too much heat. Dry flat or hang to air dry. Iron on the inside at a low temperature if needed.

Certifications

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 may be available depending on the specific article. For babywear and children’s clothing, always check the certification and class per fabric. Bamboo-based fabrics may also be available with more sustainable fibre or production certifications, depending on the supplier and production process.

Practical Tip

Bamboo fabrics are ideal for garments where softness and comfort are key. For babywear, underwear and loungewear, choose bamboo qualities with elastane for better stretch and shape recovery. Always check the care label and pre-wash the fabric before production, as bamboo-based viscose fibres can be sensitive to shrinkage.
