Foil Jersey

What is Foil Jersey?

Foil Jersey is a jersey fabric with a foil print or foil coating applied to the surface. The base is usually a single jersey or stretch jersey, often made from cotton, polyester, viscose or blends with elastane. This knitted construction gives the fabric natural flexibility and makes it comfortable for garments that move with the body.

The foil effect can be applied as an all-over metallic layer, a printed motif or a partial surface design. Because the finish sits on top of the fabric, it can be sensitive to friction, heat, washing and stretching. Over time, the foil effect may become softer or more worn, especially in areas with repeated movement or abrasion.

Foil Jersey

Foil Jersey is a knitted fabric with a metallic or glossy foil effect on the surface. The base fabric is usually a jersey, which gives it a soft hand feel, comfortable stretch and flexible drape. The foil layer adds shine, contrast and a decorative finish, making the fabric visually more striking than a regular jersey.

Because the foil effect is applied to the surface, the fabric should be handled with more care than an untreated jersey. The stretch, weight and drape depend mainly on the jersey base, while the foil finish influences the appearance and care instructions. Foil Jersey is often used for fashion garments, festive styles, children’s clothing, dancewear and decorative accents.

Applications

  • Tops and T-shirts
  • Dresses and skirts
  • Dancewear and performance garment
  • Festive fashion styles
  • Leggings and stretch garments
  • Costume and partywear
  • Decorative panels, trims and accents

Care Instructions

Foil Jersey should usually be washed at 30°C on a delicate programme, depending on the composition and finish. Wash the fabric inside out to help protect the foil surface. Do not bleach. Avoid tumble drying, as heat and friction can damage the foil effect. Iron only on the reverse side at low temperature, and never place the iron directly on the foil layer.

Certifications

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 may be available depending on the specific article. For children’s clothing or skin-contact garments, always check the certification and class per fabric.

Practical Tip

Test the foil surface before production by stretching, washing and gently rubbing a sample. Use simple seam constructions where possible, because heavy friction or repeated pressing can affect the shine and durability of the foil finish.
