What is Lamé?
Lamé is a general name for fabrics containing metallic or metal-effect yarns. The yarns may be incorporated throughout the fabric or us ed selectively to create stripes, patterns and contrasting surfaces. Modern lamé usually contains metallised synthetic yarns rather than solid metal threads.
Lamé can be woven or knitted and may contain polyester, polyamide, viscose or other fibres alongside the metallic yarns. Knitted lamé is generally more flexible, while woven qualities usually have more structure and less stretch. The exact handle depends on the proportion and fineness of the metallic yarns.
