What is Voile?

Voile is a light, transparent woven fabric with a smoother and slightly firmer structure than chiffon. It usually has a more crisp hand feel and can appear slightly more polished or lightly glossy. Voile is often used for airy summer garments, sheer blouses, curtains and decorative applications where a clean, transparent look is desired.

Care Instructions

Hand wash at 30°C or use a delicate programme. Do not wring. Hang to dry on a drying rack. Iron on the inside at a low temperature, using the silk setting.

Practical Tip

Chiffon and voile can be difficult to sew because of their smooth surface. Use fine needles, size 70–80, sew slowly and place silk paper or tissue paper under the fabric to prevent the sewing machine from pulling the fabric in.
