What is Punta di Roma fabric?

Punta di Roma is a compact double-knit fabric with a smooth, stable appearance and a firm but comfortable feel. The front and back usually look very similar, often with fine horizontal ribs on both sides. Because of its double-knit construction, the fabric has more body than single jersey and keeps its shape better during wear.

Punta di Roma is often used for garments that need stretch, structure and a clean silhouette. It is especially suitable for trousers, skirts, dresses, blazers and fitted tops.

Properties of the fabric

Punta di Roma is a double jersey fabric, usually made with a combination of plain and rib-knitted structures. This gives the fabric a dense, stable surface with good elasticity and recovery. It is less fluid than viscose jersey, but more flexible than most woven fabrics.

The fabric can be made from viscose, polyester, polyamide, cotton or blends, often with elastane. Versions with elastane are comfortable for close-fitting garments because they stretch with the body and return to shape. Heavier qualities are especially useful for garments that need a smooth and structured look.

Care instructions

  • Wash Punta di Roma usually at 30°C, depending on composition and finish.
  • Wash inside out to help protect the surface.
  • Avoid bleach and harsh detergents.
  • Air drying is preferred, especially when elastane is included.
  • Iron at low temperature on the reverse side if needed.

Certificates

  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 may be available depending on the specific article.
  • GRS may be possible when recycled polyester or recycled polyamide is used.

Practical tip

Use Punta di Roma when you need more structure than single jersey, but still want comfort and stretch. Test the recovery before production, especially for trousers, skirts and fitted dresses.
