What is a jersey fabric?
Jersey is the English name for knitted fabrics. Because jersey fabric is knitted, it is stretchable. The raw material (cotton, polyester, etc.) does not determine the name jersey. Jersey is not a real type of fabric, but a collective name for a group of fabrics with a certain knitting weave.
A real jersey fabric is knitted in the right-left binding. We usually call it Single Jersey. Often elastic yarns are included, such as elastane, also called Lycra. Are you looking for knitted fabrics made of cotton and elastane? Then take a look at our tricot fabrics.
A characteristic of jersey fabric is that it usually feels soft and is comfortable to wear. The most important properties of jersey fabrics are:
- Jerseys feel soft;
- Jerseys are strong and tear-free;
- Jersey fabric is stretchable;
For optimal preservation of quality, we recommend washing jerseys at a maximum of 40 degrees. Do not use a tumble dryer for drying. We recommend ironing jerseys at a maximum ironing board temperature of 130 ° C without steam. Note: steam ironing can cause irreversible damage.
